Global Supply Chain: Balancing Security and Efficiency

The COVID-19 pandemic had had a profound international impact and posed great challenges to global supply chains. As a global hub, China has provided substantial support for controlling the pandemic and stabilizing supply chains. In the post-pandemic era, three trends will shape global supply chains:

First, from centralization to decentralization: The pandemic has exposed many issues, such as industry chain disruption, which are critical to the survival of a country. Global industrial chains used to be concentrated in certain regions, but will gradually become decentralized. With industrial chains across different regions and countries, supply chains will become more resilient. Global enterprises will accelerate their localization. However, this does not mean they will stop making purchases from countries such as China, although they will have access to resources in more regions and markets.

Second, a shift toward balancing security and efficiency: In the post-pandemic era, the supply chain will focus on security, including supply chain security and national security. In terms of supply chain security, supply chains were at the global level in the past, but in future will be deployed around principal markets, with regional supply chains adjusted accordingly.
