Zhu Chenghu

Retired Major General, People's Liberation Army; Professor, National Defence University of People's Liberation Army Scholars

Major General (Ret) Zhu Chenghu served as deputy director of the Institute for Strategic Studies at the National Defence University, deputy director and director of the Overseas Students Department at National Defence University, deputy chief of staff of the Headquarters of the Air Force at Guangzhou Military Command, commandant of the College of Defence Studies at the National Defence University, and director general of the Academic Department of Strategic Studies at the National Defence University. He is now holding a number positions in the academic institions in China.


General Zhu taught and researched in the National Defence University and its predecessors for more than 40 years. During this period of time, he worked in the National Institute for Strategic Studies at the US National Defence University of the United States, the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London and the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore as visiting fellow. His current interest of research focuses on the major power relations, Asian-Pacific security, China’s national security, etc.


He has published widely on international studies and on China’s defence development. His books include Retrospect and Prospect of Sino-US Relations, the Major Power Relations into the 21st Century, Contemporary Military of the United States, Central Asia at a Cross, etc. His latest book entitled the Theories and Practices of China’s Defence and Armed Forces Development since the Founding of PRC, and A Guide to the World Military Masterpieces, just came out of press not long ago.
