Ling Wen

Dr. LING Wen is the President & CEO of China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy) and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. China Energy, with asset worth $272 billion, is the newly-established entity after merger of Shenhua Group, China's top coal miner and China Guodian Group, one of the country's largest power producers.

Dr. Ling joined Shenhua in 2001 and previously served as president and CEO of China Shenhua Energy Company and president and CEO of Shenhua Group. In these posts Dr. Ling led Shenhua’s quest for clean and efficient development, conversion and utilization of coal, fortifying its leading position in the global coal industry with excellence in safety, environmental-friendliness, corporate social responsibility and profitability. In 2005 and 2007 Dr. Ling oversaw the successful listing of China Shenhua Energy Company in Hong Kong and Shanghai Stock Exchanges respectively, raising a total of RMB 90 billion.

Before joining Shenhua Group, Dr. Ling started his professional career with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) in 1993 and had been appointed positions such as deputy Director of ICBC Industry and Communications Loan Department, deputy head of ICBC International Business Department and Vice President of ICBC Asia. During his time in ICBC, Dr. Ling was engaged in the establishment of the award-winning risk-based internal control system and credit risk management system, which have since been widely applied in China’ banking sector.

Dr. Ling received his bachelor degree in applied mathematics from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1984, master degree in systems engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1987, and his doctoral degree in management engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1991. In 1994 he finished postdoctoral research in the Systems Engineering Institute of Shanghai Jiaotong University. As one of China’s first systems engineering PhD and post-doctoral fellows, Dr. Ling was elected as member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2015, in recognition of his contribution to successful application of systems engineering theories to meet management challenges in large energy projects.

Dr. Ling is visiting professor of universities and research institutes such as China Renmin University, Harbin Institute of Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, Master Academy of China People’s Bank. He is also member of the Institute of Financial Accountants (UK) and the National Institute of Accountants (Australia).
