Hello, I’m Mike Henry, CEO at BHP. It’s a privilege to attend the China Development Forum again this year. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on China's future growth and the mining industry's role in supporting it, and hearing from government and business leaders at the Forum as well.

BHP is proud to continue our support for the China Development Forum. Since we joined in 2008, we’ve had the honour of attending multiple sessions, each one helping us gain deeper insights into China’s evolving landscape and its important role in the global economy. Through the Forum, we’ve been able to connect with leaders in government, business, and academia, all working toward the same goal: fostering high-quality development. This exchange has not only deepened our understanding of China’s policy landscape, but has also enabled us to better support its economic growth agenda.

China’s transformation since 2008 has been extraordinary, and is increasingly defined by new urbanisation, green development, and digitalisation. These shifts are opening up vast new opportunities, not only in China, but for the entire global economy. As we look to the future, the momentum for development is evident across many key sectors. With its strong foundations in manufacturing, cutting-edge scientific research, and dynamic urbanisation, China is poised to continue its role as a global economic powerhouse. And as China transitions to more sustainable growth models, there is an opportunity for industries, including ours, to contribute to the effort in steelmaking and copper production.

We are ready and willing to continue working with our customers to build greater efficiency, stability and sustainability into our supply chains. This is not just about what happens in and for China—it’s about creating new opportunities for global collaboration, where companies like ours can continue to play a pivotal role in driving long-term, sustainable growth across the world.
