CDF Voice | Frans van Houten,President & Chief Executive Officer of Royal Philips

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, we’ve received video messages from CDF delegates who expressed their support to China.

Today’s video is from Frans van Houten,President & Chief Executive Officer of Royal Philips.

He said that “As a healthcare company, Philips is fully committed to working with the Chinese government and healthcare community to fight the coronavirus outbreak. As we like to say: In China. For China. With China! I look forward to joining CDF 2020 soon.”

The Philips Foundation, with local help of Philips China, donated respiratory, diagnostic and monitoring medical equipment with the total value of RMB 15 million to Thunder God Mountain Hospital in Wuhan, including a Philips Incisive CT scanner, ultrasound solution, ventilators, patient monitors, defibrillators, intelligent informatics solutions and air purifiers.

Meanwhile, Philips global and local teams are working around the clock to get vital supplies into China and ensure the resilience of our supply chain to support the front line, while minimizing the disruption for customers, both inside and outside of China.

------------------------------------------

The following is the full speech.

Philips has deep roots in China. Our people and products have been present in China since the 1920s.

Today, as a global leader in health technology, China is the second largest market in the world for Philips, accounting for approximately 15% of our annual sales.

Moreover, we have a significant innovation, manufacturing and commercial footprint in China, with multiple R&D and manufacturing sites and more than 8,000 employees.

In the context of the COVID-19 outbreak, our thoughts are with China and the people of Wuhan at this difficult time.

As a healthcare company, Philips is fully committed to working with the Chinese government and healthcare community to fight the coronavirus outbreak. The company’s resources are fully mobilized to support prevention and control measures.

And I am proud that the Philips Foundation donated respiratory, diagnostic and monitoring medical equipment to Leishenshan Hospital in Wuhan. This includes a Philips Incisive CT scanner, which was the first diagnostic resource of its kind to be operational at the new facility.

We are continuing to manage the impact of coronavirus on Philips and our partners.

The health and safety of our employees remains our number one priority, and I want to pay tribute to the Philips China team and the actions of the Chinese authorities.

Clear lines of communication and strong decision-making has enabled us to deliver a robust business continuity plan. And while we do see component supplies coming under pressure, we are working hard to minimize the disruption for Philips customers. Inside, and outside, of China.

Considering our long-term business strategy in China, Philips is fully aligned with the strategic goals of the “Healthy China 2030” program.

We are closely collaborating with the local innovation ecosystem to co-create solutions that precisely meet the needs of the Chinese market.

In the future, we hope to strengthen our collaboration with the Chinese Government. By forming a strong partnership, we can help increase quality and productivity in healthcare. We aim to achieve this by delivering first-time right diagnosis and treatments; increasing access to care; and promoting a societal shift to well-being and prevention.

We are fully committed to these objectives.

In China. For China. With China!
