CDF Voice | Frank Mars, CEO of Mars Associates: I Have Confidence in the Resilience of This Country
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, we’ve received video messages from CDF delegates who expressed their support to China.
Today’s video is from Frank Mars, CEO of Mars Associates.
He said that “ I have confidence in the resilience of this country, and the fact that the hard work and dedication being exhibited today -- during this challenging time -- will usher in a better tomorrow.”
In addition to donating Mars goods to the affected regions and people, Mars has contributed several million RMB to assist in antibody research and the purchase of medical supplies to fight the epidemic.
The following is the full speech.
This is a trying moment for China, and our hearts are with you.
As millions of Chinese are doing their very best at the forefront to put this epidemic under control, we applaud their courage, dedication, sacrifice and resilience.
The whole nation is single-mindedly focusing on one task – to keep its people safe and healthy. And that’s no easy task.
From the news reports, it is impressive to see so many people giving selflessly in support of the well-being of others – the doctors and nurses, community workers, the experts building facilities for care, and people in logistics and supply ensuring that provisions are being transported to areas with the most needs. The whole nation is joining hands to deal with the virus and its impact on the country.
That includes Mars Associates in China, who have rallied to support the effort and one another.
As a family-owned business with almost 10,000 Chinese Associates and 30 years of history in this country, we feel a strong connection to China. Which is why we’re doing what we can to help; including contributing several million RMB to assist in antibody research and the purchase of medical supplies to fight the epidemic. In addition to donating Mars goods to the affected regions and people.
While taking appropriate caution to ensure the health and safety of our Associates and all the people across our value chain, we’re also now resuming production to ensure supplies are available for Chinese consumers and the millions of pets affected by the epidemic.
As the largest petcare company in China, we feel a particular responsibility to these companion animals. We aim to ensure needed supplies of pet food and access to veterinary services are available, even in the most hard-hit regions.
China is special to Mars because of the strong bonds and trust we have developed with the Chinese people over the last three decades. I have confidence in the resilience of this country, and the fact that the hard work and dedication being exhibited today -- during this challenging time -- will usher in a better tomorrow.
We stand in support of China, and we are not alone.
It is heartening to see governments, NGOs, the WHO, and other multi-national businesses and individuals around the world reaching out to offer help.
China Development Forum has always been a great platform for dialogue. I was there last year, and I fully support the decision to postpone this year’s event during this crisis. It was the responsible thing to do. I believe we will be able to come back to China soon, to continue the dialogue. I trust the difficult time will be over, and we will once again turn our attention to growth and prosperity for China, its people, and businesses like Mars that consider China ‘home’.
We are together with you.
