On September 1, 2016, Thomas Buberl became Axa's CEO. Previously, he was chief executive of Axa Germany, chief executive of Axa life & savings and health insurance worldwide and a member of Axa's management committee.
He started his career at the Boston consulting group, where he was responsible for German and international banking & insurance consulting. From 2005 to 2008, he was a member of the management board of Winterthur Group (acquired by Axa in 2006) and served first as chief operating officer and then chief marketing officer. He then joined Zurich insurance group as chief executive of Switzerland.
Since 2012, Thomas Buberl has joined Axa as CEO of Axa Germany and a member of Axa's executive committee. In March 2015, he joined Axa's management board and was appointed CEO of Axa health's global business. In January 2016, he was in charge of the global life & savings business.
He holds a master's degree in economics and management from the WHU Koblenz school of business in Germany, a master's degree in business administration from Lancaster university in the UK and a doctorate in economics from the university of ST. Gallen in Switzerland. He has been named a Global Young Leader by the World Economy Forum.
