Andrew S. Mackenzie

Andrew was appointed Director of BHP Group Limited and BHP Group Plc in May 2013. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer on 10 May 2013.

Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in oil and gas, petrochemicals and minerals. He joined BHP in November 2008 as Chief Executive Non-Ferrous and commenced as Chief Executive Officer in May 2013. Prior to BHP, Andrew worked at Rio Tinto, where he was Chief Executive of Diamonds and Minerals, and BP where he held a number of senior roles, including Group Vice President for Technology and Engineering, and Group Vice President for Chemicals.

As a scientist, he published over 50 research papers and was a research fellow with the British Geological Society and a Humboldt Fellow, he worked at the Nuclear Research Centre in Julich, Germany. In 1986 he received the President’s Award from the Geological Society and in 2002 the Aberconway Medal by the Geological Society.

Andrew was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014.
