President, the US-China Business Council (USCBC) International Organizations and Other Institutions
Craig Allen was named president of the US-China Business Council (USCBC) in July, 2018. Allen has nearly 30 years of experience in Asia, where he served most recently as US Ambassador to Brunei.
Craig Allen began his career with the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration in 1985, part of that time as an international economist focusing on China. In 1988, Allen transferred to the American Institute in Taiwan where he served as Director of the American Trade Center in Taipei until 1992 when he re-joined the Department of Commerce for a three-year posting in Beijing. In this role, Allen served as Commercial Attaché responsible for the chemical sector, consumer goods and medical equipment. During his posting to Beijing from 2002 – 2006, Allen served as the Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Mission to China. During this time, Allen was promoted to the Minister Counselor rank of the Senior Foreign Service.
In 2010, Allen became Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration, and was later promoted to Deputy Assistant Secretary for China.
