Brian A. Gallagher is President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit organization. Under Gallagher’s leadership, United Way is a global leader in philanthropic evolution and community impact. Community impact, which brings people together to create more opportunities for all, has been adopted in more than 40 countries and territories worldwide.
In 2002, Gallagher became president and CEO of United Way of America, which merged with United Way International to form United Way Worldwide in 2009. United Way, today supported by nearly 3 million volunteers and 8.3 million donors worldwide, as well as $4.6 billion raised every year, is engaged in nearly 1,800 communities, fighting for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community.
Gallagher is a regular contributor to a number of high-profile global discussions and frequently speaks about critical issues ranging from sustainable growth in emerging economies to the ability of public/private partnerships to drive innovation and create long-term human success. Gallagher leads the World Economic Forum’s Civil Society Global Advisory Board and is a steering committee member of the WEF’s “Promoting Global Financial Inclusion” initiative.
He is the father of two daughters, Katie and Maggie, and lives with his wife, Ramona, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
