Lord Barker was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors in October 2017. In August 2015, Gregory Barker was made a life Peer and, since October 2015, has been a member of the House of Lords of the UK Parliament. Lord Barker has extensive business experience in the energy sector, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, investor relations, and private equity, prior to a successful career as a prominent public official.
Lord Barker was appointed by Mayor Boris Johnson to Chair of the London Sustainable Development Commission, and served as a Member of the London Infrastructure Delivery Board from November 2015 until stepping down (following the change of Mayor) in November 2016. He is a trustee of the Climate Group, a member of the European board of the Environmental Defense Fund and a trustee of the board of De La Warr Pavilion.
Lord Barker served as member of the British House of Commons from 2001 to 2015. From 2010 to 2014, Lord Barker served as UK Minister of State for Energy & Climate Change, becoming the longest serving British energy minister for a generation.
He was elected to Parliament in 2001, serving on the Environmental Audit Select Committee 2001-2005. He was an early supporter of David Cameron. Following Mr Cameron’s leadership victory in 2005, Lord Barker was appointed first shadow environment minister and helped the then new leader transform the Conservative approach to the environment and climate change issues.
Lord Barker was educated at Lancing College, London University and London Business School.
