China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy) is the newly established entity after merger in August 2017 of Shenhua Group, China's top coal miner and China Guodian Group, one of the country's largest power producers.
With asset worth approximately US $272 billion, the new company is now the world’s largest coal-based integrated energy conglomerate and a global leader in renewable energy and cleaner utilization of conventional energy. Its coal and electricity production both account for about 15% of the national total, an important contributor to China’s energy security.
China Energy is now the world’s largest producer of coal, coal-fired electricity, wind energy, and coal-based oil and chemical products. It is also the largest primary and secondary energy supplier in China. Its main businesses include coal production, conventional energy, new energy, transport, coal-based chemicals, technological research and development, energy efficiency and environmental protection as well as industrial finance, employing over 330,000 people.
