United Nations Global Compact Back Participating Organisations List>

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the world’s largest corporate responsibility initiative with some 10,000 business and 3000 civil society signatories in 170 countries. Participating companies employing 60 million people, adopt ten principles based on UN Conventions on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and support broader United Nations goals. UNGC’s mission is to advance corporate sustainability globally, underpinning economies with values essential for more sustainable and inclusive growth.

Participating companies commit to report publicly on steps taken to respect and support human rights, ensure decent workplaces, safeguard and restore the environment, enact good corporate governance and fight corruption as well innovating.  Local Networks convene and act on priority issues at the ground level. There is a well-established Local Network in China and China is well represented on the UNGC board. Although 85 percent funded by the private sector, it also receives support from UN Member states, including China.

The UNGC is deeply connected with the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) http://www.unpri.org  (1,800 signatories, $70 trillion AUM) and the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) http://www.unprme.org (over 600 business schools in 80 countries), leveraging the power of shareholders and of education.
