The China Development forum was held in Beijing from March 27 to March 28. It was co-sponsored by the development research center of the state council and Shenzhen Development Bank Co. Ltd., with the aim of building a new mechanism and a new channel for dialogues and exchanges among entrepreneurs, scholars and government officials both at home and abroad. The meetings was attended by over 150 people, including the chairman of the board foreign scholars and CEOs from transnational corporations, representatives of international organizations, and well-known foreign scholars as well as Chinese government officials, entrepreneurs, experts, and scholars. Premier Zhu Rongji met the participants and answered their questions. Vice premier Wen Jiabao attend the opening ceremony and presented an important speech.
The theme of the forum was “China 2010: Charting the Path to the Future.” Five Chinese ministerial-level officials made presentations on China’s future economic growth, China’s entry into the World Trade Organization, the opening up of a capital market, the reform of state-owned enterprises, and the development of an internet economy, respectively. Five well-known foreign professors made comments on relevant Chinese government policies. Participants took apart in warm and frank discussions on these issues.
