The forum thoroughly discussed six topics, which are “Eliminating Local Protectionism to Integrate the Domestic Market”, ”Adjustment of Fiscal Policies and Improvements in Macroeconomic Management “, “The Opening of the Capital Market and the Restructuring of the Banking system”, “Corporate Governance of Large SOEs and their Relationship with the Government”, “Adjustment of Foreign Trade Policies and Foreign Direct Investment” and “The Opening of the Agro-products Market and the Restructuring of the Rural Economy”. All these not only were related to China’s reform and development and further economic cooperation with other countries in the world, but also were concerned by the people in various fields both within China and abroad.


The “China Development Forum 2002” was successfully held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on March 24-26, 2002. It was sponsored by the Development Research Center of the State Council and organized by the China Development Research Foundation. The theme was “China after WTO Accession.”


Attendees were distinguished entrepreneurs and economists home and abroad, as well as representatives of international organizations and Chinese senior government officials. Premier Zhu Rongji met with the attendees and exchanged views with them. Vice Premier Wen Jiabao attended and made speeches at the opening ceremony.
