Joshua Cooper Ramo

Co-CEO & Vice Chairman, Kissinger Associates, Inc. Other Organizations

Joshua Cooper Ramo is Vice Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Kissinger Associates. His clients include some of the largest corporations and investors in the world. He has served as lead China advisor on more than $50 billion of transactions. He is a Director of the Starbucks and FedEx corporations.


Mr. Ramo, a Mandarin speaker who divides his time between homes in New York and Beijing, has been called “one of China’s leading foreign born scholars” by the World Economic Forum. His papers on Chinese economics and politics such as “The Beijing Consensus” have been widely circulated both in China and abroad. In 2008 he served as China Analyst for NBC’s Beijing Olympics coverage and shared in a Peabody and Emmy Award for his commentary at the Games’ Opening Ceremony.


Trained as an economist, Ramo holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree from New York University. In 2009 Mr. Ramo published The Age of the Unthinkable, a New York Times best selling book about strategy and economics that has appeared in more than a dozen languages. In 2016 his book The Seventh Sense: Power, Fortune and Survival in the Age of Networks, will be published by Little, Brown. His first book, No Visible Horizon, chronicled his experiences as a competitive aerobatic pilot.Prior to entering the advisory business, Mr. Ramo was the youngest Foreign Editor and Senior Editor in the history of TIME Magazine, where he wrote 15 cover stories and won numerous awards.


Mr. Ramo has been a Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute, a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations,a member of the Asia21 project, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Leaders for Tomorrow, anda founder of the US-China Young Leaders Forum.
