Industrial and Commercial Bank of China was established on 1 January 1984. On 28 October 2005, the Bank was wholly restructured to a joint-stock limited company. On 27 October 2006, the Bank was successfully listed on both Shanghai Stock Exchange and The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.
Through its continuous endeavor and stable development, the Bank has developed into the top large listed bank in the world, possessing an excellent customer base, a diversified business structure, strong innovation capabilities and market competitiveness. The Bank regarded service as the very foundation to seek further development and made efforts to build a "bank to the satisfaction of customers" while providing a wide range of financial products and services to 5.78 million corporate customers and 530 million personal customers.
Taking the provision of service to the real economy as the starting point and the ultimate goal, the Bank remained steadfast in new finance and new service under the guidance of new concept, supported the supply-side structural reform and the economic transformation and upgrading and realized healthy and sustainable development. Through deepening of reform, innovation and operation transformation, retail banking, asset management and financial market business emerged as the important growth engines of profit. The pattern of internationalized and diversified operation was further improved, covering 42 countries and regions, contributing more to the Bank's profit-making.
The Bank consciously unified the social responsibilities to its development strategy and operation and management activities, gaining wide social recognition in the aspects of supporting targeted poverty alleviation, protecting environment and resources, participating in social and public welfare undertakings and promoting inclusive finance. The Bank was ranked the 1st place among the Top 1000 World Banks by UK magazine The Banker for the fourth consecutive year and the Global 2000 listed by the US magazine Forbes, topped the sublist of commercial banks elected by the US magazine Fortune, and took the 1st place among the Top 500 Banking Brands rankings of Brand Finance.
