ADB is working for an Asia and the pacific free of poverty. With more than $31.5 billion a year in development financing and about 3,105 employees from 67 members, including 48 from the region, ADB delivers projects that change people’s lives in Asia and the Pacific.

The Asia and Pacific region is on the move. Rapid economic growth over the past 20 years has lifted more people out of poverty than ever before. But the impressive gains mask a range of issues that are holding people back from reaching their full potential. These include a growing gap between the rich and poor, environmental degradation, risks arising from climate change, a lack of infrastructure, and persistent poverty in many areas. ADB is meeting these challenges with an increased emphasis on climate change, innovation, addressing inequality, strengthening support for middle-income countries, and promoting resilience to disasters.

ADB helps to develop the region and its people by working with governments and private companies, providing women and girls more opportunities, supporting good government practices, and partnering with people and groups across society. ADB’s work focuses on infrastructure; the environment, including climate change; regional cooperation and integration; financial sector development; education; and health.

ADB’s work between 2010 and 2015 has resulted in：

Over 2.5 million households connected to electricity

Over 86,053 kilometers of roads built or upgraded

Over 6.5 million households with new or improved water supply

Over 5.6 million microfinance accounts opened, mostly by women

Over 24.6 million students benefiting from new or improved schools and other educational facilities

Since it was founded in 1966, ADB’s team of hundreds of professionals has included economists, sociologists, engineers, gender experts, and environmental scientists. Assistance from ADB comes in the form of loans, grants, policy dialogue, technical assistance, and equity investments. In addition, ADB shares its knowledge and expertise with governments, civil society groups, other international financial institutions, and the public.

ADB is responding to the development challenges of Asia and the Pacific with solutions that are stronger, better, and faster.
