HYUN Jung Taik

President, Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) Other Organizations

Dr. Hyun Jung Taik is the President of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), a leading national think-tank of Korea, since June 2016. He has over thirty years’ experience in the Korean government in the field of macroeconomics and international economic cooperation, and is an expert in international trade and economic diplomacy. He served as Director-General of International Economic Bureau, Ministry of Finance, and Minister of Korean Permanent Delegation to OECD in 1990s. He was the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality in 2001, and Senior Secretary to the President for Economic Affairs in 2002. As the President of the Korea Development Institute (KDI) from 2005 to 2009, he devoted his efforts to comprehensive policy measures and research on the Korean society. He served as the Chairman of the Korea Trade Commission from 2010 to 2013, and Vice Chairman of the National Economic Advisory Council from 2013 to 2015. From January 2015 to May 2016, Dr. Hyun was the Senior Secretary to the President for Policy Coordination, as a policy expert to facilitate the economic reform plans and structural reforms of the Korean society. He has also taught students in the Department of International Studies at Inha University. Dr. Hyun received his M.B.A. from the Sloan School, Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT) and a Ph.D. in Economics from George Washington University.
